Sharing constructive knowledge and transforming knowledge

Morning,

In week four of the learning paths, students had to identify and share their constructive knowledge and transforming knowledge objectives from the Australian Curriculum along with the criteria from QCAA. You can refer back to my previous post draft of unit plan of the learning objectives I have chosen.

As it turns out, the criteria sub strands that I had aligned with my learning objectives did not match! Silly me thought I was on a roll and had it correct but thanks to this learning path activity and with the guidance and explanation from Vicki (our course moderator), I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the criteria and hopefully I am now on the right path (I’ve posted again in the forum and I’m just now waiting for a confirm…fingers cross I’ve got it right…otherwise if it’s not right, I will be going back and trying again).

Until next time.

Week 2 of holidays

Morning all,

Holiday!” (CC BY 2.0) by  Joel Gonsalves

The beach, if only…

I wish this was me at the moment, instead my face is looking at my laptop.

I haven’t blogged of late mainly because I’m not to sure what to write about since we are on uni holidays plus I’m finding it difficult to link to another students blog (hence not much of the learning paths reflections are being posted). One students blog I did come across was KATTYBRAD who also mentions that they were sitting down in front of their computer wondering what to blog about.

Just like KATTYBRAD, I’m too checking forum posts and EDC3100 facebook pages throughout the holidays so I don’t have to play catch up next week. I must say throughout the two weeks holidays, posting on either sites have been very quiet.

Until next time.

Pinterest

Morning! Happy hump day!

Pinterest= my new addiction!

For about a year now, I have had an account with Pinterest and never quite understood it (basically I didn’t have time to learn about a new app or maybe I didn’t have the patience to learn about it due to already having many accounts with other agencies. I just made an account and signed off).

It was probably three months ago that I was hearing all these stories about Pinterest and how great it was, so I thought why not? I’ll give it a chance to see what it is about. Well to that point, I had to create another account due to not remembering my first account details and I have never looked back! So many resources to be found! So many great ideas! Not just to use for when we are teaching but for the home to use with our children. I’ve now come to the point where I have to give myself a time limit because I was spending to much time on there.

One pin I did come across which hopefully I will get to use in the classroom is apps for classroom management posted by Valerie. I especially like the too noisy app. That would come in handy.

Another student who has also mentioned their obsession with Pinterest isLLANDRYBLOG. Go check out their blog!

Until next time.

Draft of unit plan

Happy Easter everyone!

Hopefully you are not in a chocolate coma..

Chocolate induced coma for Cordelia

This is a pretty rough unit plan, so please no harsh thoughts! It may come across as an explosion of tomato sauce but by writing down my unit plan or in this sense via blog, I’m giving myself suggestions/ideas for the assessment pieces but also for the unit.

Here it goes..

My somewhere: Year 1

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) unit name: Have not thought of it yet. I will get back to you.

Curriculum: Australian (ACARA) HASS

Content descriptors/learning objectives

Constructing knowledge:

Differences and similarities between students’ daily lives and life during their parents’ and grandparents’ childhoods (ACHASSK030)

How the present, past and future are signified by terms indicating time, as well as by dates and changes that may have personal significance, such as birthdays, celebrations and seasons (ACHASSK029)

Transforming knowledge:

Pose questions about past and present objects, people, places and events(ACHASSI018)

Compare objects from the past with those from the present and consider how places have changed over time (ACHASSI023)

The criteria I have chosen is from the QCAA

Length: 4 weeks

My ideas for the unit are as follows:

  • Comparing aspects of students lives to their family members through communication, play time and family traditions
  • Sequencing of events
  • Students develop an awareness of time
  • Role play
  • Theme: Students are time travelers?

Formative assessment could possibly be:

  • Learning journal
  • Rate understanding
  • Blog
  • Mind maps

Summative assessment:

They are just some ideas that I have and as I said this is just a draft.

Another student has also shared their idea for a unit plan, go take a look at Wilsonj2016. I love how Wilsonj2016 has made the students authors and their work is going to be presented to the foundation year students.

Until next time.

Funny Story

4411497087_89ac3ba69d_o

Afternoon all,

This photo is how I am feeling right now, frustration out of my own stupidity.

Take my following example…

Today I thought I would check in Inplace to see if my placement was there (I had to find my own placement, which I had never done before and basically it was a terrible experience….story for another time) and do you think for the life of me, I could find Inplace to check?

No.

I was typing Myplace (total idiot!) into the search engine….

I’ve wasted probably half an hour, trying to find something that doesn’t exist! See I have never used Inplace, the last time I did placement was when they used Sonia.

Moral of the story… Make sure you read things correctly.

Until next time.

End of week 3

Morning,

Thoughts about week 3…

Tough. Probably because I was introduce to a new framework (RAT) spending hours trying to find a suitable lesson plan off the net that didn’t breach copyright (ended up making my own up, due to so many grey areas!) plus having a busy week with my offspring.

I’ve written down my perception of the RAT framework to help me with assignment 1:

Replacement: Technology is used as a different means and receives the same lesson objectives outcomes.

Amplification: Increases the efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of the learning sequence.

Transformation: Invents new instruction, strategies, learning or curriculum outcomes during the lesson/unit.

Through week 3 I have mainly felt rushed, overwhelmed  and confused. Yes David has supplied sufficient amounts of materials, resources to help us all but my brain is taking awhile to catch on….

I am hoping week 4 brings on less confusion and hopefully I’ll have assignment 1 completed. Not to mention a better understanding of the RAT framework 🙂

For a different persons perspective on week 3, go take a look at Keelym1994 blog post.

Until next time.

RAT Assessment tool

Morning,

It seems I am having a tad of trouble with the RAT section of the excel spreadsheet. It was mention through one of the learning paths, that there is an RAT assessment tool app that may help students depict what sections/columns their lesson plans fits into whether it is replacement, amplification or transformation.

When I found out, there was such an app I downloaded it because I needed extra help understanding the RAT framework. By using this tool it did help somewhat, but I believe it does not take in the grey areas (or maybe I am just overthinking the RAT framework). The question is whether this tool will help for assignment 2 and 3 but also when I am on my professional experience.

Ashley has also downloaded the app to help her with assignment 1. Ashley finds the tool useful and will be using it for her other assignments.

Until next time.

Lesson plan

Afternoon all,

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. I have decided to upload my lesson through my blog.

Enjoy!

Are digital technologies making us anti-social?

Cellphone Break” (CC BY 2.0) by  ahisgett

Hello everyone!

Are digital technologies making us anti-social?

My answer for this was yes. Simple right?

Guess again.

The answer was no.

I’m still trying to get my head around that, because I still disagree. Either I’m old fashioned but it’s just plain rude to have your head down while you are surrounded by other people. Simply because you made a choice. You choose to go out and see your friends, if you want to communicate on your phone, why not just stay at home? Simple!

I’m very aware of how much technology I use, especially because I have a little person watching everything I do. The only time I pop on it is basically when it’s sleep time, hence why I am on here now.

In the end, it all comes down to how you use technology. It’s all about choice.

If your are on the same path as me, go check out Ashleigh’s blog post, she has uploaded a video about how a person has 4 hundred and something friends (social media) but he is lonely. Interesting video.

Until next time.
