Unstable, opaque, protean, meta-medium..

Okay first off, inserting this baboon clip took forever, the joys of using digital technology. The reason why I start my post with this clip is number one I got a giggle over it, thanks David! And secondly quite simply it sums up my negative experiences using ICTs over the course of my life. I wish I could just throw the device and wonders to the world, I would understand but then I wouldn’t be sending a great message to my offspring of how to problem solve in a manner that wouldn’t cost me hundreds of dollars to replace.

You see I thought I would just press the add media button up the top of the page and enter the URL of the video and then click on insert and boom! Video in! It didn’t happen. Hence why I searched through Google hoping someone else in the world may have had the same issue. Sure enough, someone did! The video is below for your viewing, if anyone has any troubles embedding videos for blog.

Okay, now I’m going to talk about what the terms I came across today. These were unstable, opaque and protean, meta-medium. Now this was the first time that I had came across such terms in relation to ICT and honestly I started to become confused. I understood that technology is unstable how it changes (just like the current of the ocean) and I understood opaque thanks to David’s explanation but protean and meta-medium?  Now that was confusing even with David providing information and examples of it. I’m still finding it a little hard to process. In saying that,  I now have the bread crumbs to further investigate my understanding of the terms and hopefully I’ll have a wow moment.

Until next time.

Goodbye holidays! Hello studies!

Well the time has come again to put away my addiction to Netflix and get in study mode, because folks semester one is going off like a rocket ship!

I must admit I liked how our lecturer David had a week zero, for all students to set up their personal blogs and accounts through DIIGO and Feedly, as most of us may have been having a freak out due to all the new material we were being introduced to.

I felt having week zero gave me a chance to prepare for week one, I felt less stressed due to David providing images, steps and advice to scaffold our learning of setting up of these different accounts. I am happily going into week one knowing I can get stuck into the course content and not worry about setting up accounts or have technical problems.

One activity I enjoyed doing was sharing, reflecting and connecting. I felt it was a great ice breaker to meet other students (especially when it’s online). It was nice to read different peoples backgrounds and see how much we are similar but also different. The interesting thing was how everyone feels about ICT, there were many diverse answers.

One person that I found on the forum that was similar to me was Janna,  you can check out Jenna’s blog here. The other activity we had to do was finding someone different to you, I found it was a little tricky but in the end I came across Tameka and we had something different to talk about. You can find Tameka’s blog here.

I think EDC3100 is going to be challenging but also rewarding. Good luck everyone on your first week of studies.

Setting up my blog

Welcome to the world of blogging, yet before I even started I had so much trouble creating this blog page through WordPress. It all started with choosing a user name, it seemed every user name I wanted was already in play so for about half an hour I was trying to create a name that I could use (to this point I was thinking wow! This is harder then the time when I had decide on a name for my child..).  Finally though I came up with the user name of Jayneally (tough bit over?) Nope!

Next was my email, I forgot the .au on the end, and couldn’t activate my blog! I was constantly clicking the link for resend to email address and checking my email but no activation email? Fun times! (took me awhile to notice that I had forgot the .au). The good news is I finally got my blog up and running and typing out my first blog post 🙂

Until next time.
