Digital Citizenship

Afternoon everyone!

For this post, I am going to give you my understanding of digital citizenship.

Digital citizenship is when a person is engaged in screen time (being connected to the big wide web) and throughout this time making sure you are internet safe. For example being careful on what personal information you share online or what internet sites you enter.

I believe I am very careful with my usage of the internet and how I go about using it. I very rarely share photos on social media (because once its on there, it stays on there right?) and I never accept people I don’t know. I guess it goes back to being a kid and my parents telling me not to talk to strangers and give out personal information. I guess I took that advice and applied it to when I am using the internet.

This weeks learning path we had to complete two quizzes. Below are my results.

Quiz one was about bullying: I got 3 out of 4. Questions 1, 2 and 4 I got correct. Question 3 I got wrong,  I was a bit surprised that cyberbully wasn’t the main form of bullying in secondary schools.

Quiz two: Cyber smart. I ended up getting 24 out of 25. I was pretty sure the cat web page looked safe! Tricky.

From both quizzes, it showed me that I had a fair understanding of digital citizenship and it even showed me not to trust cat web pages!

Until next time.

Everyone seems to have a story about placement.

Morning,

It is interesting to read the different stories/experiences people find when they are waiting for where they are placed for their professional experience.

One blog post I came across is Wedrac, who is yet to be placed in a school. That must be frustrating but also relieving because eventually you will be placed.

My experience was the total opposite, this year I had to find my own placement due to unseen circumstances of moving to a different state and boy I got a rude awakening.

This probably goes back to January, where I started to call up schools for my professional experience. I had contacted about 10 schools, thinking I would get something straight away but after all 10 rejections (I know its wasn’t against me personally), I started to worry. By February I had contacted over 80 schools with no luck. All the schools were saying they were full for the year and only had agreements with certain universities.  To this point I had many crying sessions due to all the rejections and stress of terrible scenarios in my head of not being able to complete my placement but also my degree! I ended up contacting the placement office and sending them a copy of all the schools I had contacted and basically I was in big trouble and needed help!

In the end, a school contacted me back and confirmed I could do my placement there! Thank goodness! I physically jumped around the room when I heard the news and my poor nephew looked on like I was crazy but then ended up joining in and jumping around.

It just goes to show you everyone has different experiences and we all can understand each others joy and frustrations/sadness.

Until next time.

Freak attack!

Don’t Panic” (CC BY 2.0) by  fotologic

If only…

Morning all,

It has come to my attention the importance of not questioning yourself or maybe even not to assume things.

For example, my mentor teacher contacted me a week ago via email asking if I wanted to come in again to go over the units of work the students will be covering while I’m on placement, so I would have an idea what the student will be doing for the next 3 weeks and I had opportunity to place my concerns with my mentor. Well I returned my message via email happily, and waited for reply…

Everyday I was checking and didn’t receive anything back (started to go in freak mode). I was going to send another email to confirm my last one, but then I thought what if she’s super busy? Term 2 has just started, plus I didn’t want to bug her because I know teachers are really busy and I didn’t want to come across as a annoying uni student. So I decided that if I hadn’t heard anything by today, I was going to shot through another email….

Good news! My mentor contacted me! She too was checking her emails everyday for my reply and the email that I had sent only went to her drafts! My mentor had explain that they and changed the layout of the email account and she didn’t think to check the drafts. So freak attack over.. for now 🙂

My lesson learnt for the day, don’t always leave emails to the only communication. Thinking back now, I could have called the school.

WilsonJ2016 I know you mention that you haven’t found your placement yet, but I can understand your panic! I contacted roughly 100 schools, before I found something. I’m wondering are you within 50 km of the uni?

Saying goodbye to module 2

Afternoon all,

Is it enough to say bye module 2? I won’t miss you? Because assignment 2 will be gone!

Okay I’ll stop with the questions.

I found module 2 to be very resourceful, especially in the terms of completing assignment 2 (I’m nearly done! Just have to complete my justification and references!). I liked how it was broken down into each stage of the assignment and how you had a chance to post in the forums to double check your understanding of course content but also to know if we were on the right path for assignment 2.

I would also like to thank Lauramarshall91 for posted the link preparing assignments . I love how it’s in stages and can prepare you for your assignments. Look out future assignments, I’ll be ready!

Until next time.

I’m feeling like the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland

Afternoon,

Right now I am feeling the heat this week, getting the learning paths completed, getting my quota of blogs in, completing my assignments and what else? Dealing with a two year old who’s word of the past six months is NO! MUM STAY AWAY! Seriously have no idea where this kid has picked up STAY AWAY! Too bad offspring doesn’t do that to strangers, offspring is happy to have a two year old chat to them… Take the other day, the Telstra tech guy came to fix something and when he was finished, offspring comes running up to him and pats his large round tummy. Ah…. Seriously? Then I had to explain to a two year old why is not appropriate to touch and pat strangers stomachs, even if it’s round and wobbles.

This whole week, I feel like I am constantly looking at the clock and the calendar, chasing my bunny tail…  Crbruggemanm blog also discusses how time is flying for him. I’m hoping it calms down soon, but then professional experience is just around the corner..

Until next time.

Motivation where have you gone?

Afternoon,

At the moment I am really struggling to find my motivation for my courses. I have had a rough couple of weeks in my personal life and I am also worried about going on professional experience since I have not been in a classroom for about two years. I feel like I am a first year student all over again. I have to keep on reminding myself that I am nearly finished my degree that I have to keep on going not only for my future but also for my offspring future. It seems like I’m not the only one have lacking motivation, Abigail is also lacking motivation and she explains her reasoning in her blog post.

Until next time.

Cliptomize

Morning!

Cliptomize has anyone heard of it before?

I first was introduce to cliptomize from a previous course. Cliptomize is a website where you can create your own digital book; cookbooks, scrapbook, photo-books and clip-books. I must admit my first experience using cliptomize wasn’t a success, mainly being I couldn’t find the create button through the website to begin my digital book. I remember I was pulling my hair out because I spent over an hour trying to find the create button but with no luck. So I decided to go outside of the website and start looking for answers on why there was no create button.

Guess where I found my answer? You’ll never believe. I found it on Facebook, of all places. Turns out cliptomzie has a facebook page and through the comments other people had the same issue of there not being a create button.

Turns out you need to open cliptomize in Internet Explorer for there to be a create button!

Answer found!

Overall though, after the few step backs I’d experience, cliptomize is actually pretty cool plus it’s free! I will be using this site again.

Another resource that I may use when I have my own classroom comes from Nataliejmoreblog who posted about Class Dojo. This app is used to track children’s positive and negative behaviors throughout the day. Thank you for sharing.

Until next time.

Quiz- Matching constructing and transforming knowledge objectives

Morning all,

I think I am finally getting to understand the differences between constructing and transforming knowledge objectives. YAY!

Excited

I completed the quiz on the study desk, and was super excited that I got 10 out of 10. Now I know it’s not graded but by completing this quiz it has shown me that I am slowly on my way to knowing the differences between constructing and transforming knowledge objectives through the Australian curriculum.

From previous blog post, you know I have also been a bit muddled by the two terms above. RENNELLINKE also talks about how she also has been challenged by these terms. Not only did Renee look at the moodle books provided on the study desk, but she also expanded her search through Google to further her understanding of constructing and transforming.

Until next time.

Finding ICTs resources for my unit plan

Morning,

For one of the learning paths this week, I had to scout the internet to find some ICT resources that will enrich my learning experiences in assignment 2, unit plan. The resources also had to fit in with my unit plan, so finding the right resource took some time.

The following resources I found are connected to my unit plan and the resources have given me some ideas for the learning experiences in the lessons.

The above resources are just some of the resources I have found so far, I  have also posted the links in Diigo .

Amandajbale has also suggest some examples of sites/apps to enrich learning experiences, go check it out!

Until next time.
